campaigns from the tourist tax

The City of Prague was the first municipality in the Czechia to commit to reinvesting 50% of all revenues from the tourist tax into developing tourism. The proceeds will mainly be used for its cultivation, for marketing campaigns implemented by Prague City Tourism or for MICE activities such as congresses or international conferences. Furthermore, the proceeds are invested into mitigating the negative impacts of tourism in Prague. Among other things, this concerns the increased need for effective city services such as maintenance and cleaning of public spaces, a functional municipal police force and investment in the further development of Prague and its social and cultural facilities.

The redistribution system is valid from 2023 and follows up on a previously signed memorandum concerning the increase of the tourist tax to CZK 50 between the City of Prague, the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants and Prague City Tourism. Every year, Prague City Tourism implements three long-term campaigns using the proceeds from the tourist tax. The first campaign titled At Home In Prague promotes domestic tourism. The second campaign titled Prague.eu promotes inbound tourism, while the third campaign titled Enjoy Respect Prague is an educational and awareness campaign among visitors to Prague about the limits, rules and culture of behaviour in the city.
